Led by trombonist and composer Chris McIntyre, TILT Brass (TB) is a Brooklyn-based organization dedicated to redefining and transforming contemporary brass music. Formed in 2003 in New York City, TILT is known for inventive and inclusive concert programs, striving to expand the repertoire for brass chamber music and large ensembles. Through its innovative performances, recording projects, and commissioning initiatives, TILT boldly positions itself as the vanguard presenter and advocate for new brass music in New York City.

Founded by McIntyre and Gregory Evans, TILT Brass’ various projects present the work of living composers with over 60 premiere performances. Its personnel includes many of the brightest stars from the local brass community in ensemble configurations ranging from solo and chamber groups to experimental brass orchestra. TILT projects have been presented in numerous vital New York venues including the Whitney Museum, ISSUE Project Room, Roulette, The Lake at Central Park, Joe’s Pub, University Settlement, and The Stone. In December 2011, TILT Brass was a featured ensemble during the final performances of the Merce Cunningham Dance Co. at Park Avenue Armory, premiering works by composers John King and David Behrman.

TILT Brass’ repertoire includes works for its idiosyncratic groupings (TB Trombones, TB Trumpets, TB Orchestra, and its progenitor, TB Creative Brass Band) by Zeena Parkins, Julius Eastman, Phill Niblock, James Tenney, Lois V. Vierk, Anthony Coleman, Jon Gibson, Heiner Goebbels, Enno Poppe, Richard Barrett, and King, and ensemble participants including McIntyre, Nate Wooley, and Curtis Hasselbring.  TILT can be heard on releases by the Tzadik, New World, Chaikin, Pleasure of the Text, and Non-Site labels.
